As soon as you know your move date, arrange for your insurance, telephone, internet, cable, and electric service to be transferred. Cancel the cable at least a day before the move; you definitely won't be watching TV the night before!
Make sure to overlap your electric service if it's a local move; you will most likely be shuttling back and forth between the two residences for a few days to clean the old place; you'll need electricity for that.

Setting up the coffee maker is usually a 'must-have', too. You definitely will not want to wait until the end of the day to think about these things - you will be exhausted.
